Back in 2021 KTM’s midsize adventure machine grew from 799 to 889cc and became the 890 Adventure. But after a few years it became clear that there was still a place in the lineup for the 790. By utilizing its partnership with CFMoto, who manufactures the 790′s engine, KTM was able to pass significant savings over to the consumer by bringing back the 790 Adventure. The result is a much more affordable motorcycle when compared to the 890 Adventure R ($15,799), with the 2024 790 listed at $10,999.
The engine is an updated version of the 799cc liquid-cooled parallel twin with a 20 percent increase in crankshaft weight for smoother delivery. There were also improvements to the clutch’s lubrication and plates for improved shifting. The 790 Adventure still gets a full suite of rider aids including a six-axis IMU that enables cornering traction control and ABS in addition to Offroad ABS, while riders can choose multiple ride modes.
Bolted to the steel-trellis frame is a 43mm WP Apex fork with provisions for rebound and compression damping. At the rear is a WP Apex shock. Travel measures 7.9 inches at each end, while the spoked aluminum rims are mounted with Pirelli Scorpion STR rubber.
KTM didn’t skip on the cockpit as the 790 gets a full-color 5-inch TFT display which can be upgraded to include the connectivity unit for Bluetooth smartphone pairing.
The 2024 KTM 790 Adventure starts at $10,999.
