Kawasaki unveiled an enticing new option for supersport riders during this year’s Tokyo Motor Show—the Ninja ZX-25R.
According to video released by Kawasaki Indonesia, the ZX-25R will be powered by a 249cc DOHC inline-four with 16 valves and liquid-cooling. It will come equipped with a Showa SFF-BP fork, horizontal back-link rear suspension, radial-mount monoblock caliper at the front, and electronic counter measures in the form of traction control, quickshifter, and power modes—elements that in recent years were only reserved for 600cc-class and up sportbikes. The frame, however, is more budget-minded with a high-tensile steel trellis frame design rather than a high-tech twin-spar aluminum configuration.
The rumor mill indicates that even though this model is being made in Indonesia and was revealed in Tokyo, it will be available worldwide. Here’s to hoping that comes true.
There isn't a whole lot of information available beyond that, however. We expect to get more details during the fast-approaching EICMA show in early November.
This machine could be a real boon to the sportbike market though, which has suffered in terms of sales in recent years. A more modest price tag, possibly sub-$10,000, alongside up-spec components and electronics, lightweight (we presume), and agile handling (again, making assumptions here) will no doubt be enough to excite trackday riders, racers, and canyon carvers alike.
Plus, it has the aesthetic hallmarks of its larger siblings, so it isn’t lacking one bit in the looks department.
We are excited to see what else this bike has to offer, so stay tuned for EICMA coverage in the coming weeks when we hope to have a more thorough run-down for you.
