Macna is a Dutch motorcycle apparel manufacturer that’s been in business since the early 1990’s—but it wasn’t until Twisted Throttle started carrying the gear last year that we Yanks could get easy access. Good thing, too. After dragging the Macna Oasis jacket close to 1000 miles through a variety of conditions, I can say it was worth the wait.

Structurally, the Oasis utilizes an outer shell of 420D Dynax nylon with high abrasion resistance at the shoulders, elbows and forearms, with a softer 500D material on the arms and torso. There are tough Superfabric reinforcements at the shoulders and elbows, and it’s all breathable. Two liners handle waterproofing and insulating duty, and both can be zipped out. The liner sleeve attachment is especially well designed, as they zip to the exterior cuffs around the perimeter (called Easycuffs) creating an impenetrable seal and minimizing snagging.

That full-sleeve thermal liner kept me plenty warm on cool, misty spring rides, but it got tossed for my September jaunt through the eye-flooding humidity of New England. With liner out, I simply pulled down a chest-mounted zip on each side to expose mesh panels for instant air flow.

You get CE-approved protectors in the shoulders and elbows, and a basic foam pad in the back, along with a pile of storage options: a pocket on the chest, a pair on the lower front and one on each shoulder. There’s even a large pouch on the back. Fit is blissfully comfortable, with adjustment straps at the arms and waist to snug the fit—which is more form-fitting than boxy U.S. designs—and smartly-positioned reflective panels keep you visible (an optional high-viz Vision Vest is available). With first-rate comfort, design and build quality, the Oasis is definitely a top pick for long-distance touring. –AC
