When Honda introduced the original Z100 in 1961 and then later changed the name to the Z50 Mini Trail, it was an instant hit. The little 50cc four-stroke-powered machine quickly was nicknamed the Monkey, and was produced for decades. But by the end of the ‘90s it vanished.
But thanks to the Honda Grom platform, the company reintroduced the Monkey for the 2019 model year with styling and paint that was a throwback to the original ‘60s models. It has a 1.5-gallon fuel tank painted with the historic 3D “Old Wing” Honda logo, chrome fenders, and the look of a classic. But everything else about it is fully modern with LED lighting, LCD gauge cluster, and the engine it shares with the Grom.
Unlike the truly mini-sized engine in the original, the current model features a 124cc SOHC two-valve air-cooled engine with a five-speed transmission. It features programmed fuel injection, which helps it provide predictable and efficient power.
The Monkey has a compact 45-inch wheelbase, weighs 231 pounds, and sports a low 30.5-inch seat height. The bike comes standard with ABS to complement the front and rear disc brakes.
For 2025, the Monkey is offered in a white and red color combination for $4,349.
