Completely new from the ground up in 2018, the Honda Gold Wing) lost many dozens of pounds of weight and became sportier in an attempt to reach an audience younger than the AARP set. The telescopic fork was replaced by a double-wishbone design, allowing the smooth and powerful 1,833cc flat-six motor and the pilot to be placed closer to the front wheel for greater rider communication. An optional dual-clutch automatic transmission made the rig easier for some riders to handle.
The changes for 2020 are far more subtle. Front and rear suspension settings have been updated in some regard, although details haven’t been elucidated. The USB charger in a saddlebag of previous airbag-equipped Wings is now standard on all models, joining the USB outlet in the dashboard for an additional charging option.
Additionally, the release button for the center storage pocket has been revised for "improved action," addressing an issue we had during our 2018 BMW K1600 Grand America vs Honda Gold Wing shootout. The navigation system receives software updates.
As previous, the Gold Wing lineup has a few variants. For 2020, the standard Wing in Matte Black Metallic retails for $23,800, while the DCT (dual-clutch transmission) version costs $1,200 extra. Both are available in the new black color with anodized surfaces.
Moving upmarket are the Tour models with the 50-liter top boxes, now with fog lights as standard equipment, as well as reshaped grab handles for the passenger said to "provide improved ergonomics for passengers of all body types."
The Tours are available in two colors: Pearl Glare White ($27,500) and Candy Ardent Red/Black ($28,000). DCT versions of the Tours retail for a $1,000 premium. The white colorways feature a new blacked-out treatment of the frame, engine, and wheels.
Top o' the Wing line is the Tour DCT Airbag model, which comes in its own colorway, Darkness Black Metallic/Gray. Its MSRP is $32,300. (Kudos to Honda for not bothering with the $x999 gamesmanship!)
