First Look Review: 2017 Triumph Street Cup

A sportier, sexier Street Twin that lives up to its café-racer roots.

Triumph just announced the release of the 2017 Street Cup . With the same engine, chassis, and bodywork of the Street Twin , the Street Cup gives more cafe-racer appeal to the beloved parallel-twin Bonneville . A new paint scheme, accessories, brakes, and chassis dynamics set this apart from its fellow 900cc Bonnevilles.

The silhouette of the Street Cup may look familiar. As it should, because it is the very same bodywork as the Street Twin. One of the differences is the color schemes available for the Street Cup: 2-toned Racing Yellow and Silver Ice or Jet Black and Silver Ice. A color-matched flyscreen and matching seat cowl, which covers an alcantara seat, are added details that give the Street Cup more café-racer style.

Aside from fresh paint schemes, the Street Cup comes with dual gauges, the same found on the Thruxton. Now you can not only tell how fast you're going but how fast your engine is turning too! The Street Cup also gets Thruxton-style footpegs and forged headlight mounts. New dropped "Ace" handlebars and bar-end mirrors keep the profile of the Street Cup low and sleek—no mouse ears popping up and out of the handlebars.

In addition to the lowered handlebars, the riding stance of the Street Cup has been set up more aggressively than the Street Twin by having a slightly higher seat situated a bit further back. To raise the rear end the Street Cup gets longer suspension units. This contributes to a steeper head angle, making the little cafe racer more agile than its Street Twin brother.

The new Nissin two-piston caliper is said to improve braking performance up front, and the Street Cup retains the Twin’s ABS. Other features carried over from the Street Twin include ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, and a torque-assist clutch. The gearbox remains a 5-speed. And, just like the Street Twin, there is a slew of Triumph accessories to further make the Street Cup your own, including fully adjustable Fox rear suspension units, Vance and Hines silencers, adjustable aluminum levers, fender eliminator, and heated grips.
