Ducati has already announced that come next year, some version of the Desmosedici Stradale powerplant will make its way into the Multistrada. Until then, it’s giving the 1,262cc DVT Testastretta Evoluzione DVT motor one last chance to shine in the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour.
The Multi Grand Tour comes in a sleek gray and red paint scheme, and represents the luxo-touring arm of the 1260 lineup. In addition to bold new graphics, the $23,295 price tag includes the Ducati Touring Pack (panniers, sidestand, heated grips) installed from the factory rather than as an optional add-on accessory. The Grand Tour also gets LED fog lights as standard. Other than that, it's the same Multi 1260 S we've been enjoying since 2018.
If you think by spilling the beans about the Multistrada V4 (or whatever it’ll be called) Ducati may have scalped 2020 sales of its big-bore tourer, there’s probably some method to its madness. With KTM expected to unveil a replacement for its 1290 Super Adventure at this year’s EICMA, Ducati may have wanted to signal would-be buyers that they won’t have to wait long for its formidable V-4 package to show up ensconced in ADV touring bodywork. In other words, the announcement may have been code for: “Don’t buy a KTM! We’ve got something all-new coming next year!”
So the MTS Grand Tour is Ducati saying: "Look at this! It isn't orange and it's really nice!" Plus, it's a nice way to celebrate 100,000 Multis sold over the years.
So if you can’t hold out for the V4—and like us, are big fans of the 1260 S anyway—you shouldn’t have to wait too long to get your hands on the MTS GT, though there’s no word on when it will show up at US dealerships. When it does, we sure think it’ll look tempting in its fancy new paint scheme.
