More bikes will be added to your queue of concept motorcycle daydreams. Aprilia revealed its Tuono 660 concept at EICMA 2019, BMW showcased its electric roadster and R18/2, Ducati, as covered earlier, has two scrambler concepts. Honda showed off its CB4 X, and Husqvarna its Norden 901.
Characterized by the same aluminum frame and adjustable suspension seen on the RS 660, the Tuono 660 reveals just a little more of what is powering the motorcycle with its minimal bodywork. The 660cc two-cylinder engine of the concept is claimed to produce 95 hp, and with its middleweight engine capacity, is geared toward new riders and those moving up the ranks from smaller-displacement motorcycles. The riding position is more upright than the RS with its raised wide handlebar. What is also inherited from the RS is the triple LED front light assembly with perimeter daytime running lights situated around the main headlamps. The Tuono 660 adopts the double fairing with aerodynamic appendix function. Electronic aids include traction control, anti-wheelie control, and engine-brake control, all of which are adjustable. Ride modes are also available for road and track.
Look familiar? You may have seen the BMW Vision DC Roadster in Cycle World's coverage earlier this year. It was there in the flesh at EICMA 2019. In case you didn't know, the Vision DC Roadster is an electric concept from BMW that features traditional styling cues like the exposed drive shaft as well as boxer-engine-like girth. Although the concept is not powered by the flat-twin engine, this concept pairs the modern electric tech with traditional styling.
The last R18 concept was carbureted, but the latest one revealed at EICMA 2019 is now fuel-injected and has LED lighting. On this latest Bavarian concept we are able to also see an airbox and side covers, components not seen on previous models. Take a look at the video below to see the R18/2 in action.
Two Ducati concepts were revealed at EICMA, one of which being the Scrambler Motard. As stated in our coverage of the models, this machine is built around the 803cc L-twin engine and has rerouted exhausts that end in a high muffler.
The second of the Ducati concepts is the Scrambler DesertX. The coverage explains that this model will use the 1,079cc L-twin engine platform. From the tires to the tailsection and windscreen, the DesertX has us dreaming of taking on some rally terrain.
From Valerio Aiello and a team of young designers comes a Honda concept that combines the sport-touring and midsize crossover categories. The headlight is positioned in the lower part of the fairing with integrated daytime running lights giving the Honda CB4 X concept an aggressive appearance. Follow the lines on the fuel tank to the short, sharp tail, and the CB4 X carries its menacing look from end to end. The 17-inch front wheel hints at precise handling and the trademark inline-four engine nestled in the aluminum frame suggests some lithe power delivery.
Husqvarna's Norden 901 Concept is an adventure-tourer with a 889cc parallel twin. Elements like WP suspension, spoked rims, a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel, and rally styling have us itching to experience the machine in the locations seen in the photographs. Heck, or at least around the block. According to the manufacturer, they claim that the ergos are comfortable and the handling is confidence inspiring.
