Concept motorcycles and prototype motorcycles peek at the future of new motorcycles. For manufacturers, it’s a chance to develop street bikes beyond the current spectrum of production in an effort to gauge the motorcycle riding public’s interest. It’s also a creative method to tackle design challenges and progress development forward. 

Concept machines often represent the first step, and many are outlandish in terms of performance and looks, never moving past the initial design stage. Others, however, will be built so testers can evaluate all aspects of the machine. Prototypes, on the other hand, generally represent bikes fairly close to production. These vehicles allow engineers to make the final tweaks in an effort to get the machine ready for the public. For example, in 2019 Ducati brought its Streetfighter V4 naked bike prototype to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb while the first production model came to market a year later.
