The City of Sturgis is pleased to announce the 4th Annual Sturgis Supermoto, an AMA-sanctioned event, when America's best Supermoto racers hit the streets of historic Downtown Sturgis for the fouth annual Metzeler Sturgis Supermoto race. This year the event moves to the Summer for a Fourth of July celebration with fireworks, Supermoto and Freestyle Motocross preceding the famous Sturgis Rally. Supermoto combines exciting elements of motocross, dirt track and road racing all into one dynamic and exciting race. The purpose-built track features jumps and high-speed straights on both dirt and asphalt. The layout is designed to showcase the trademark versatility possessed by top Supermoto racers.
“We are very excited to be hosting this event”, said Jerry W. Cole, Director of the City of Sturgis Rally & Events Department. “Never before have we had this kind of speed and horsepower competing right on Main Street along with MAVTV Motorsports Networks filming the entire race.” The race is part of the AMA Pro Series that kicked off at the Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, California.
The action begins on Friday, July 1st at 8:00 a.m. with 3x AMA Champion Mickey Dymond's 43 Racing School. This is an on-track instruction from one of the world's best. If you have ever entertained the thought of racing with the pros you will not want to miss this. The School is $185 and you can register at dymond43school@gmail.com.
Friday afternoon's activities include the pro and amateur practice sessions and Media Day events starting at 4:00 p.m. with races starting at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2nd starting at 10:00 a.m. features professional riders from all over the U.S. and Canada. Amateurs from around the region will also get the opportunity to show off their skills both Friday and Saturday.
“Sturgis Supermoto is one of the only events in the world where you can sit on main street and have lunch 10 feet away from the racers” said Cole. We want to create a first-class event for some very amazing racers and those that come to watch,” said Cole. “It’s going to be a race we hope people won’t soon forget. We will also have some of our best local talent on the track and we’re hoping that our racing community will come out and support them.”
In September of 2013, the city hosted the First Annual Supermoto event. The race was a huge hit with racers and the large crowd of race fans that lined the track. The event is free for spectators so we invite everyone to bring their families to Sturgis and cheer on their favorite riders and don’t forget the City’s Fireworks display will be held at dusk after the races on Saturday night July 2nd.
