Swedish electric motorcycle manufacturer Cake has revealed a new, multi-use bike for 2020, the Ösa. The Ösa will come in two variations: The 4 kW Ösa Lite and a 7 kW Ösa+, and both will be available starting March 2020.
Designers created a highly customizable platform with the Ösa, utilizing what Cake calls a uni-bar, modular clamp-on system that allows riders to add numerous different accessories such as bags, tools, seats, baskets, lights, and more. According to Cake, there will be more than 1,000 different configurations possible.
"To avoid an environmental meltdown, there is an obligation to change what is shared by everyone. Transportation is one of the more evident changes. We're seeing combustion vehicles being replaced by electric; gasoline and diesel are being banned, and cars will soon be excluded from the urban landscape. The Ösa is our next offering—it provides a viable platform for that change as it so capably meets the diverse needs and priorities of our customers," says Stefan Ytterborn, founder and CEO of Cake in a company release.
The prominent crossbar is part of the design of both the Ösa Lite and Ösa+. Both will be available with 1.5 kWh or 2.5 kWh batteries, with peak power listed at 10 kWh. The top speed of the Lite is listed at 30 mph, while the Ösa+ will be capable of reaching 63 mph. The Lite will be classified as a 50cc moped, while the Ösa+ will be registered at a 125cc motorcycle. Both will offer 63 mile range between charges.
These bikes are designed to be suitable for both on and light off-road use, and the batteries for each have 12v and USB charging ports for electronic devices.
The Ösa Lite will start at $6,000 with the 1.5 kWh battery, and the Ösa+ will carry an $8,000 price tag with the 1.5 kWh battery.
The sweeping versatility offered by the Ösa platform is highly appealing, especially considering the needs of the range of urban commuters around the world.
