Why I Bought It: I've always been nuts for things on two wheels, probably because I wanted to be Evel Knievel as a child (I'm 43 now and I still want to be Evel Knievel). My father owned several cruisers, so did my brother and eventually he made the jump to sport bikes. Every once and awhile, I would sneak away with his Kawasaki KZ440 LTD for a 15-minute ride. Sometimes when he was out for the day, my rides were longer. I always loved that feeling of pulling out of a corner and laying down the gas, it can't be explained, it's just magical.

To feed that addiction I got my motorcycle license in September 1997 and I bought the Suzuki GSX-R750 in April of '98. Picked it up used from a local dealer on April 2nd. Rode it to the nearest clothing store where I proceeded to buy suitable, but cheap riding gloves. I was off, destined for a long ride, becoming acquainted with my new friend. Didn't last nearly long enough! Snow in early April isn't that rare in Quebec.

I rode the Gixxer for two more years. A mix of commuting to work, school, and everything in between. Took my wife-to-be on a ride along the lake shore, I guess that sold her on my cool factor. During the winter months, I would wheel it into the basement. There's a warm and fuzzy feeling when you walk into a room and come face to face with a GSX-R750.

Why I Sold It: Sadly, the time came when I had to make a hard choice, make the "grown up" choice. Keep the bike and use the bus and train from November to April, or buy a used car. Obviously it's a decision I've regretted ever since!

Why I Wished I Still Had It: It was a great bike! Unbelievably fast and an absolute gem on open roads. It was my first bike, so naturally it holds a special place in my heart. For many reasons—marriage, mortgage, and vacations—I've not been able to replace it, and not a minute goes by when I don't regret it. The day is coming when I buy another, but sadly that day isn't today.
