Most women I know have a hard time finding jeans that fit well. Waistband that doesn't gap, just the right contouring for the hips, a flattering cut on the pant leg that doesn't leave your legs feeling like tightly encased sausages (I'm looking at you, jeggings). So you can imagine how difficult it is to find a pair of riding jeans that are not only comfortable, but flattering, while also providing proper protection. Fear not my fellow moto sisters. I have found the holy grail of motorcycle denim: Alpinestars' Kerry riding jeans.
Alpinestars’ Stella Kerry Tech Denim riding jeans are made of 12 oz. denim, and are cut to accommodate a woman’s natural curves. For abrasion resistance, the jeans are lined with aramid fiber reinforcement panels in the seat and knees. Additional protection is provided with CE armor in the knees, as well as Velcro-attached hip pads. And the additional panel to accommodate the knee armor is subtle enough, especially with the dark blue denim wash.
Now, I get that every woman is proportioned differently, but for me, these jeans fit like my favorite pair of Levi's. And that's with hip pads in. I often wear them to work, and forget to change into regular jeans when I get there, ending up wearing them all day. Bossman Cook's wife, Martha, has a pair, and she concurs: "After a long afternoon ride, we're heading out to dinner, so I remove my boots, change shirts, take the armor out of my riding jeans, then put the jeans back on. Because besides being armored and reinforced where it matters, these Alpinestars Kerry riding jeans are super comfortable and LOOK GREAT. And they fit a woman's body. Which begs the question: why has it taken so long to design a pair of riding jeans that a woman actually wants to wear?"
A very good question indeed. The only complaint I have about these is the lack of a zipper at the back for attachment to a jacket. To be honest, I took it upon myself to install one (which is no big deal, since most jackets with a half zipper come with both halves of the zipper. Either sew it in yourself, or take it to a tailor to do a professional job!) These jeans sit somewhere in the mid range for price, ringing in at $199.95. But I know plenty of people out there who will pay that much for regular jeans, let alone ones that’ll help prevent broken bones and road rash.
