Zero Motorcycles just revealed its 2020 lineup and the motorcycle that is garnering the most attention is its new 2020 DSR Black Forest. This motorcycle takes the popular DSR to the next level with the addition of three premium hard cases, touring windscreen, touring seat, crashbars, LED auxiliary lighting, and headlight guard. The critical $2,895 option to consider when you purchase the DSR Black Forest is the new Power Tank which adds an additional 3.6 kWh of battery storage capacity which increases range to nearly 200 miles.
As far as ebikes are concerned, that is an impressive range. When you consider the off-road potential you have to factor in the length of the ride to the starting point of your adventure route and then plan accordingly, but this range rivals what you can expect from a gas-powered bike. The point of all this is that Zero is expanding our expectation of the electric motorcycle as it pertains to dual sport and adventure riding, and environmentally conscious consumers are the ones who will benefit from it.
There will be those purists who scoff at the prospect of adventure-touring on an electric motorcycle, but we encourage you to look at it from this perspective. For most riders, an adventure consists of riding paved roads to a destination that includes non-paved roads. These fire roads, jeep trails, and other forms of light OHV are still exciting for many riders and these journeys that are not too far off the beaten path are how new riders build confidence in their skills and their motorcycle.
We feel that Zero is absolutely heading in the right direction by addressing the dual sport and ADV markets. This is not a bike that will take you into the deepest, darkest corners of the planet, that’s what combustion-powered bikes are for. These new electric motorcycles keep inching farther and farther away from the charging station, and that’s great for consumers, great for the industry, and good news for you. The electric motorcycle movement is upon us, folks, and the 2020 Zero DSR Black Forest is proof that manufacturers are pushing the limits, consumers are embracing it, and we are excited to see how far these new bikes will take us.
The 2020 Zero Motorcycles DSR Black Forest will be available in the fall of 2019 with an MSRP of $18,995 for the base-model DSR and $21,890 for the DSR Black Forest with Power Tank. Both bikes will be available in the Black Effect colorway only.
