Same great bikes with bold new graphics.

Yamaha’s Super Ténéré ES holds down the ADV fort for Yamaha while we await the 2021 Ténéré 700.Yamaha Motor Corporation

For 2020, Yamaha isn't announcing big changes in its sport-touring and adventure-touring lineup—and we'll still have to be patient before we get our hands on the long-awaited Ténéré 700—but if you're in the market for a capable mile muncher, the Iwata factory's lineup is worth a look.

The models include the Super Ténéré ES adventure bike, the FJR1300ES sport-tourer, and the Tracer 900 GT sport-tourer. If the bold new graphic treatment doesn't get you excited, rest assured: riding these Yamahas will.

The Super Ténéré comes in a new Ceramic Ice colorway for 2020 and carries an attractive $16,299 MSRP in a market where top-shelf ADVs are pushing mid-$20k levels. Last updated in 2014, the Ténéré has a 1,199cc parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crank and a touring-friendly shaft drive. A 6.1-gallon fuel tank, an adjustable windscreen, and cruise control round out its out-of-the-box touring capability. In the tech department, the big Ténéré features electronic suspension adjustment, three ride modes, and a linked ABS system.

Yamaha's venerable FJR tows the sport-touring line with its comfy ergos and powerful 1,298cc inline-four engine. Touring amenities include integrated hard luggage, cruise control, heated grips, and adjustable windscreen. The FJR's shaft final drive makes hotel parking lot chain maintenance a thing of the past. Other highlights include electronically adjustable suspension, cornering LED lights, a linked ABS system, and adjustable throttle response modes. The 2020 FJR will be available in March with an MSRP of $17,999.

2020 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT

Yamaha’s most up-to-date sport-tourer, the Tracer 900 GT is the sportiest machine here as well as the most affordable.Yamaha Motor Corporation

This year saw significant technical changes to Yamaha's three-cylinder sport-tourer along with a new name: the FJ moniker was dropped in favor of the Tracer name used in other markets. The GT model's touring accoutrements include hard bags, heated grips, and cruise control. The Tracer GT is powered by Yamaha's crossplane 847cc triple derived from the MT-09 and features an electronics suite that includes throttle modes, traction control, and a quickshifter. The upright riding position and lightweight package make it a great choice for riders looking for a bike that marries the ergos of an ADV bike with the riding dynamics of a sportbike. MSRP is $12,999. For 2020, the Tracer 900 GT is available in a Matte Raven Black/Reddish Copper colorway.

We haven’t heard any rumors of an updated Yamaha flagship ADV bike. It’ll be interesting to see what Yamaha eventually comes out with in such a competitive segment.Yamaha Motor Corporation
