Yamaha's budget-friendly, throttle-happy Bolt and Bolt R-Spec cruisers are returning for the 2020 model year. Yamaha refers to the Bolt as its "urban performance bobber," but the Bolt has found its calling all across the riding spectrum with its compact, solid chassis, performance suspension, and torquey V-twin power.
Both Bolt models are centered on their shared 942cc, air-cooled, 60-degree V-twin engine that utilizes electronic fuel injection, pent-roof combustion chambers, and lightweight forged aluminum pistons to produce gobs of usable power. A low seat height, short-wheelbase chassis, and overall compact feel make the Bolt a fan favorite among shorter beginner and intermediate riders, though taller, more advanced riders can also easily feel at home on the Bolt.
The Bolt R-Spec improves upon the already capable Bolt with a set of twin piggyback rear shocks, 12-spoke cast alloy wheels, and more in-depth paint schemes. Both models run a modern LED taillight and an LCD instrument cluster to bring a little high tech to the minimalist bobber feel.
The 2020 Bolt and Bolt R-Spec will be arriving at Yamaha dealers starting in September (October for California dealers) with a starting sticker price of $7,999 for the standard Bolt in Raven and $8,399 for the Bolt R-Spec in Matte Silver.
