2020 KTM RC 390 Spied Testing

We’re hoping for some much needed updates to KTM’s 2020 RC 390.

The look of the RC 390 is quite a bit different than previous models.BMH-Images

KTM was spotted testing yet another new 2020 model, this time a refreshed RC 390. This follows a spate of recently leaked testing images, including shots of a new 1290 Super Adventure and an 890 SMT/GT. The RC 390 might be one of the most exciting though, since it has a lot of room for improvement.

Since its initial release in 2015, the RC 390 has received a handful of updates, but not the massive overhaul that it deserves in light of the numerous gremlins that have affected the machine. If you don't know what we mean, be sure to check out our long-term series on the 2015 model modified for race duty.

Unfortunately, the spy shots we have in our possession don’t reveal if the electrical or engine issues have been addressed, but we can hope.

The changes to the bodywork, however, are immediately apparent and are a substantial deviation from the steady path the bike’s been on, aesthetically, since 2015. New side panels and tailsection along with a brand-new front end, headlight, windscreen, and an altered trellis frame are clearly visible.

With Euro 5 coming into effect next year, there are surely changes coming to the intake and exhaust systems, and perhaps even more sophisticated electronics. The small-displacement sportbike class is pretty packed these days, and even though the RC 390 has been a standout since it’s debut, a revised dash display and maybe a ride mode or two would go a long way to keeping it at, or near, the head of the pack.

Stay tuned for more details as they’re available.
