According to our inside source, the new KTM 790 Adventure R and 790 Adventure will be priced at $13,499 and $12,499 respectively.
Bikes should be available at your local KTM pusher dealership by May.
With those price tags, we consider both versions to be aggressively priced. For comparison, the 2019 Honda Africa Twin is priced at $13,599 and the Triumph Tiger 800 from $12,000–$16,200 (depending on trim).
As previously announced, KTM has teamed with CFMoto in China to build all LC8c models (790 Duke, 790 Adventures, and upcoming models) in a new production facility starting in 2020. It’s unclear if model year 2019 790 Adventures will be built in Austria or in China.
By building the motorcycles in China, KTM is able to price the machines very competitively. It also makes good sense considering the rapid growth of the Southeast Asian market. However, it remains to be seen how Western consumers will respond with their wallets.
For a lot of enthusiasts, part of the appeal of buying a premium European motorcycle is that it’s built right at the source. Does building it in China take away some of the appeal? And more importantly, will quality control be an issue?
Regardless, the 790 Adventure and Adventure R are some of the most exciting motorcycles of 2019. Look out for a full ride report coming soon.
