2017 King of Motos Kicks Off This Weekend

The 2017 King of the Motos is shaping up to be the largest turn out in the history of the event with 107 pre-entries. The 2017 edition of the race will host an all-new set of courses with a three-moto race format, where the overall score will determine the King of the Motos winner. Riders will heavily rely on GPS and navigation skills to be able successfully reach all checkpoints to complete and finish the 2017 event.

The first stage of 2017 will be a night race starting at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, where the riders will land rush the course into a rocky section. There will be no pits and no outside assistance of any kind during the Motos. There will be two locations spectators can access for the best viewing of Stage 1. Spectator maps for entire King of the Motos event will be released on Saturday during the rider’s meeting. Once riders finish the night race, bikes will be released for the evening.

Sunday morning will host Stage 2 featuring a land rush start at 9:00 a.m., February 5 to commence the Desert Moto portion of the event. Always a crowd favorite, riders will be faced with what may be the most difficult single section of the entire course. Once riders conquer the rocks, the GPS will navigate riders into a fast and rough course reminiscent of Baja desert races. Following Stage 2, rider’s bikes will be placed inside impound where riders-only will be able to touch and/or work on their race bike.

Stage 3 will be a technical, hard enduro starting at 12:00 p.m. where riders will be challenged with difficult line selections, navigational and riding skills. There will be excellent spectator sections throughout the final course.

The event will differ from last year’s course as there are no repeated loops and no timing other than checkpoint close times. Navigation is key in all three stages and will reward the riders most fluent with their GPS. Various race miles during Stage 2 are on the military base with no public access, except for racers in the race.

Three-time winner Cody Webb and 2015 winner Colton Haaker will return in hopes of claiming the 2017 title. Webb and Haaker will be joined on the starting line with Webb’s Red Bull KTM Factory teammate Taylor Robert followed by a tough lineup of heavy-hitters from the EnduroCross, WORCS, Hare & Hound and other off-road race series.

For the women, ISDE, GNCC & EnduroCross rider Rachel Gutish and EnduroCross rider Morgan Tanke are in the lineup to take on the same course the boys will.
