In the first NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle national event of the 2016 drag racing season, Eddie Krawiec rode his Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson to a 6.820 at 198.23 to defeat Hector Arana Sr.’s 6.920 at 196.44 on his Lucas Oil Buell. This marks Krawiec’s 32nd career win and his fourth victory at Gainesville Raceway.
Krawiec topped both the Friday and Saturday qualifying chart to lead the field into the elimination rounds. As the number one qualifier, Krawiec outran Michael Phillips in round one with a 6.780 at 198.12 run against a losing 6.955 at 194.16. Jerry Savoie’s Alligator Farms Suzuki was the second-round victim followed by reigning PSM World Champion Andrew Hines in round three. Krawiec took out his teammate with a consistent 6.791 at 198.35 to reigning World Champion Hines’ 6.903 at 190.35 to meet Arana Sr. in the final showdown.
“Going out there I had a great motorcycle,” Krawiec said. “I have a great crew behind me, but the key thing for me was to not screw it up. You have the first-round jitters after four months of not racing, but I knew I had a fast motorcycle. We’re all really excited, everybody back at our shop. We’re glad one of our Harley-Davidsons got the win.”
