2009 Hyosung MS3 Review

During the 2009 model year, South Korean company Hyosung sold one model of one of its higher-end scooters, the MS3, via its S&T; Motors imprint. Officially known as the ""2009 Hyosung MS3-250,"" the scooter had a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $4,499.

Available as a black, blue, or silver scooter, the 2009 Hyosung MS3 is partly named after the displacement of its four-stroke liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine; it displaces at 249 cubic centimeters (rounded up to 250). Its bore and stroke is 2.88 x 2.35 inches (73 x 59.6 millimeters), and its compression ratio is 12.1 to 1. Four intake valves go on the engine's cylinder in a double overhead camshaft valve train.

Each engine on the 2009 Hyosung MS3 is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission. Also known as CVT, this type of automatic gearbox helps the engine to operate more efficiently, thereby increasing fuel economy. Hyosung provides a 2.1-gallon (8-liter) gas tank. The 2009 MS3 engine relies on fuel injection, with an electric starter on the scooter for convenient ignition.

The 2009 Hyosung MS3 enjoys great stopping power, thanks to its all-wheel dual hydraulic brakes. A 9.4-inch (240-mm) one goes to the front. A smaller, 8.6-inch (220-mm) one goes to the back. The suspension of the 2009 Hyosung MS3 comprises a 1.4-inch (35-mm) telescopic fork at the front and a twin-sided steel swing arm with two shock absorbers at the back. Each 2009 MS3 rides on front 13-inch and rear 14-inch aluminum wheels.

Built with a solid steel frame, the 2009 Hyosung MS3 is a full-fairing scooter, with front and rear fenders and fork guards. On top of the bike is a one-piece vinyl seat with backrest to accommodate up to two occupants. Digital instrumentation on the 2009 Hyosung MS3 comprises a clock, tachometer, trip odometer, speedometer, fuel level warning gauge, and temperature warning light. For storage, each scooter has under-seat and lockable compartments, a glove box, and a place to hang a helmet.

On each 2009 Hyosung MS3 is a tinted windshield for protection against flying debris and gushing wind when driving. An engine immobilizer acts as the scooter's security system, and a power outlet provides the ability to charge a cellphone or other types of mobile devices. Also included are a halogen headlight and a pair of side mirrors.

The 2009 Hyosung MS3 has a length of 83.5 inches (2,121.4 mm), width of 30.1 inches (764.5 mm), height of 53.7 inches (1,364 mm) and wheelbase of 59.1 inches (1,501.1 mm). The ground clearance and seat height for each scooter is measured at 4.7 inches (119.4 mm) and 29.5 inches (749.3 mm), respectively. The dry weight of each 2009 MS3 is 341 lbs. (154.7 kilograms).

The 2009 Hyosung MS3 is particularly blessed with superb braking and handling, more so than most scooters. Also placing the 2009 MS3 above most of its contemporaries is its richer list of standard features.
