2007 Schwinn Sport Review

Intro

Placed below the Sport LX scooter for the 2007 model year, the 2007 Schwinn Sport was designed for customers who want the sports orientation at a lower price. Like its Sport LX sibling, it was introduced in 2006, making 2007 its second model year.

The 2007 Schwinn Sport measures 72 inches in length, 26.8 inches in width and 44.9 inches in height, with a dry weight of 198 lbs. The bike's manufacturer, United States company Schwinn, set the manufacturer's suggested retail price at $1,699.

The ‘07 Sport is sometimes referred to with a two-digit suffix: “50.” This is the reference to the displacement of its 4-stroke single cylinder engine; it displaces at 49.5 cubic centimeters (cc), which is rounded up to 50 cc. The engine--which has a single overhead camshaft configuration that consists of two valve on its cylinder--is mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Unique in its design to go to any of an unlimited number of gear ratios, the CVT enables a more efficient operation of the engine, which translates into a better fuel economy. With Schwinn recommending premium fuel and providing a peak fuel capacity of 1.1 gallons, the ‘07 Schwinn Sport can get an enviable fuel economy of 117 miles per gallon.

To keep the engine from overheating and consequently malfunctioning, it has an air cooler feature. For quick engine ignition, especially in cold weather, Schwinn provides a carburetor and electric kick starter.

The 2007 Schwinn Sport 50 comes as a black or red-and-white scooter. A front disc brake and rear drum brake go on the 12-inch steel wheels. On top are a one-vinyl seat for the driver and a passenger, and a dashboard that includes an analog speedometer and fuel level indicator. Halogen headlights and rearview windows provide enhanced visibility and lighting. Under-seat, glove box and helmet storage are also included.

The ‘07 Schwinn Sport uses some of the same type of components as the '07 Sport LX, and it is a bigger yet lighter bike. Thus for budget-oriented folks who do not mind skipping that “LX” suffix for a less expensive scooter, the ‘07 Sport is far from a bad choice.
