Harley-Davidson Recalls 2014 Touring Models Due To Safety Issue

The Motor Company is issuing a voluntary recall of 84,590 ABS-equipped 2014 Touring motorcycles shipped worldwide

Press release from Harley-Davidson:

2014 Harley-Davidson FLHXS Street Glide Special

Harley-Davidson Motor Company has determined there may be a safety issue with certain ABS-equipped model year 2014 Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles. These motorcycles may have been assembled with a front brake line in a position where it could become pinched between the fuel tank and the frame, either at the original assembly or in subsequent service activity. If this condition remains undetected, it could cause front brake line pressure to increase while riding, possibly resulting in a front wheel lock-up.

2014 Harley-Davidson FLHTKSE CVO Limited

As a result of these circumstances, Harley-Davidson Motor Company is issuing a voluntary recall of 84,590 vehicles shipped worldwide that may have this condition. This includes 66,416 shipped in the U.S., which represents certain model year 2014 FLHTK, FLHTKSE, FLHTKSHRINE, FLHTCU, FLHTCUTC, FLHTP, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHXSHRINE, FLHR, FLHRC, FLHP, FLHRSE models equipped with ABS built July 1, 2013, through May 7, 2014.

This recall covers the entire subject motorcycle population, although not all of these motorcycles may contain the defect.

Owners will be asked to arrange service with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, who will inspect the affected motorcycles for brake line damage and replace damaged lines as necessary. Dealers will also install one or two cable straps as required, depending on when the motorcycles were built, for brake line retention. All affected products are covered by the manufacturer’s limited warranty, so customers will not be charged for this work.
