A teaser of Ducati's upcoming 2016 Monster 1200 R shows little but promises a lot. Ducati says only that it's "the most powerful Ducati naked ever is almost here: a more powerful engine, a sportier chassis and an advanced design."
How do we read that? It’s likely that Desmodromic Variable Timing will expand from the current Multistrada 1200 to the Monster, which shares the basic Testastretta engine architecture. Currently, the Monster S makes 145 claimed hp and almost 92 pound-feet of torque. Look for that number to jump to the 160 hp claimed for the current DVT Multistrada. That would make for a pretty steamy M unit.
A sportier chassis seems to promise a more aggressive riding position and stiffer suspension, perhaps even the firm's electronically controlled semi-active Skyhook. At the very least, if Ducati is following its own history, the Monster R will get Ohlins suspension in place of the current top-line Monster’s Sachs equipment.
According to the teaser, Ducati will unveil a new Monster 1200 R on September 14th during the Volkswagen Group Night in Frankfurt. This event takes place just before the opening of the 2015 IAA (Internationale Automobil Ausstellung) in Frankfurt. Those attending the German show will get the first look at the new Monster 1200 R which will be on display to the public for the very first time at the Audi booth from September 15 to 20.
We're promised more details after the unveiling on the 14th..
